U.S. State Government Relations Update Continued from page 8
As this article is being written, PBSA's U.S. Government
Relations is laser focused on issues like the Michigan and
California DOB access issues (which I invite you to monitor
via thepbsa.org and the PBSA GR Community forum).
Also, GR is working to alter the shape and trajectory of SB
731 in California which would create the most extensive
automatic record sealing system of its kind in the US,
greatly crippling screening in the state. While we have seen
improvements, PBSA and our allies will be working through
the California legislature's summer break to further diminish
the negative potential of the bill. Even with legislatures
at ease, government relations efforts never let up.
While things return to normal with the Annual Conference,
we will be ready to return to normal in 2022 with our Advocacy
Days as well. While we were limited in 2021 to virtual
advocacy via Zoom, our efforts were exceptionally effective
in keeping PBSA in the mix in statehouse conversations on
screening related issues. Next year, we hope to reboot and
rebuild our in-person advocacy days with the 7 states we
had scheduled in 2020 (Washington, Colorado, New York,
Illinois, California, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts) and
adding others based on legislative priorities for the year.
I do hope when those days get scheduled in your neck
of the woods that you will consider volunteering to join
us for a day to speak with state level officials regarding
the importance of screening and how they can help us protect
the safety and welfare of their businesses and constituents.

see you this September in Anaheim and that you'll take
